Measurement and Alignment Systems

Measuring and alignment systems for compation and machining processes

The use of reference clamping systems for machining processes and the pressing of metal and ceramic powders result in a significant increase in productivity and quality. At the same time, the demands on tool, press and adapter accuracy and on the accuracy of the alignment of reference clamping systems to each other are increasing.

A range of measuring and alignment systems guarantees increased accuracy requirements and easy access to pressing and machining processes with reference clamping systems.

Dynamic and static measurement of press and adapter geometry

The APC-4i is a high-precision measuring system for checking, measuring and calibrating adaptors and presses.

Presses and adaptors have three or more support levels, which are fixed to the press or adapter guides and guide the reference clamping systems / compaction tools in vertical movements. The quality of the pressed parts depends on the accuracy and rigidity of the guides and on the angular accuracy and rigidity of the support planes of the adapter or press and the reference clamping systems.

The APC-4i measurement system measures the axis parallelism (a,b,c) or the angular positions (alpha, beta, gamma) of the carrier levels of the compaction tools and the reference clamping systems during vertical movement. Guiding accuracies and errors in the angular position of the carrier levels are measured, analyzed and digitally logged. Based on these measurements, the geometry of the adapter or press is corrected, if necessary, according to the correction values calculated by the software using the correction procedure developed by ProGrit.

Displacements due to horizontal and vertical forces can be measured and the static rigidity of the adapter and press can be calculated from this.

The measurement tools are mainly based on cylindrical measurement pins and a hollow cylindrical measurement fixture, which carries the electronical probes.

Different parts of the press or adapter can be measured depending on the position of the measurement punch and the measurement probe holder.

Highest precision combined with the simple user interface of the APC-4i software enable fast and best possible measurement of the geometry, accuracy and static stiffness of adaptors and presses.

Measurement setup and measurement equipment APC-4i for measurement under compaction force

The measurement setup shown allows the radial system rigidity of the press, adapter and reference clamping system to be measured under the influence of the compaction force. The measurement is carried out in the X and Y axes using 4 probes and a round measurement punch (e.g. P-002 684).

Under the effect of the compaction force, the round elastomer spring element is deformed and the radial movement of the measuring punch is measured.

The measured deflections provide information about the rigidity of the press, the adapter and the reference clamping system in the pressing process under compaction force.
